Windows


Windows Server Core is not supported

Windows Server Core provides a minimal Microsoft Windows Server installation, it does not provide all the capabilities needed by FileNet Content Manager.

Content Platform Engine and Content Search Engine Platforms

Content Platform Engine and Content Search Services must use the same type of server operating system; that is, either both must be on Windows or both must be on Unix/Linux. Content Platform Engine and Content Search Services can be on different versions of Unix/Linux.

Remote Services support

Remote services is supported on Windows operating systems. Reference vendor documentation for compatibility and restrictions between the Windows application and Terminal Services.

When running Remote Desktop Connection, IBM recommends using a physical console session.

Microsoft 2019 redistributable files

Microsoft 2019 redistributable files are needed for Windows systems where content-based indexing and searching are configured and when thumbnails are generated. On some operating systems, these files are installed by default.


Linux


Required operating system packages and libraries

Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux offer an optional install scenario that does not include the X.org package. The X.org package contains libraries that are required to run the FileNet P8 GUI installers and tools. Content Platform Engine and Content Search Engine Platforms

Content Platform Engine and Content Search Services must use the same type of server operating system; that is, either both must be on Windows or both must be on Unix/Linux. Content Platform Engine and Content Search Services can be on different versions of Unix/Linux. 

Power Linux is Not Supported

While FileNet Content Manager can be run on Power AIX, FileNet Content Manager is NOT supported on Power Linux hardware.

Note that FNCM standalone containers can run on Power Linux.


LinuxONE Support

FileNet Content Manager components that are supported on IBM z Systems are also supported on IBM LinuxONE systems.


AIX

AIX C++ Redistributable Files Requirement

the AIX C++ redistributable files minimum version 17.1.1.4 or later are required on the Content Platform Engine and Content Search Services servers to support the generation of thumbnails and to index content for Content-Based Retrieval (CBR).

Configuring AIX to use the Configuration Manager GUI

Using FTP to Move Installation Images

To use FTP to move installation images to the server, set fsize=-1 in file /etc/security/limits to enable FTP large file size. This is not required if you download the images from Passport Advantage or Fix Central.

Application Servers


Application server-based clients of Content Platform Engine that are using the EJB transport, including other FileNet components, must use the same application server brand and major version as the Content Platform Engine.

The application server can run on any operating system supported by both the application server vendor and FileNet Content Manager. However, all application servers must either be running a Windows operating system, or all the application servers must be running a Unix operating system.

The Content Platform Engine only supports 64-bit application servers using a 64-bit 1.8 Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Clients running in a 32-bit application server environment may connect with Content Platform Engine running on a 64-bit application server environment. Note that a memory leak has been introduced in IBM JRE 8.0.7.5. The issue is resolved in IBM JRE 8.0.7.15.

Databases


The FileNet Content Manager components do not need to run on the same operating system as the database.

Unless otherwise noted, the listed databases are supported on any operating system or hardware environment that is supported by the database vendor. This includes appliance-based offerings and cloud-based offerings, as long as the device- or cloud-based database offering provides full access to all of the features of a database. For information on the operating systems on which the databases can be deployed, refer to the appropriate database vendor documentation. In this report, refer to the notes associated with a specific database for information on any limitations on the operating system support driven by FileNet Content Manager.

Amazon RDS for SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL databases, as well as AWS Aurora for PostgreSQL can be used. To configure XA transactions with RDS SQL, refer to the following link: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonRDS/latest/UserGuide/Appendix.SQLServer.Options.MSDTC.html.

Note that Amazon has not enabled MS DTC on Gov Cloud.

The database used for IBM Content Navigator does not need to be the same type as the database used for Content Platform Engine.

IBM Development does not provide tools or support for migrating from one database type to another, for instance migrating from Oracle to PostgreSQL. For assistance with migrations, contact IBM Expert Services.

Database encryption technologies that work at a disk sector level should be transparent to the P8 server engines. Examples of these types of solutions include IBM InfoSphere Guardium Encryption Expert, Oracle Tablespace Encryption, and Vormetric Database Encryption Expert. IBM ECM products do not qualify or support these technologies themselves, but we do tolerate P8 databases running in an environment where a transparent disk sector encryption technology has been deployed.

Advanced technologies, such as partitioning, can be used. However, since these technologies might have a negative impact on performance and functionality it is important to evaluate the use of these technologies in your environment prior to using them in production.

When configuring a highly-available environment, any of the following database configurations can be used:
  • Aurora PostgreSQL
  • AWS RDS PostgreSQL
  • DB2 active/passive configurations
  • DB2 pureScale (active/active) configuration
  • Oracle active/passive configurations
  • Oracle RAC (active/active) configuration
    • Data sources used for workflow systems are limited to 2 Oracle RAC nodes. Object stores that are not collocated with workflow systems do not have the same restriction
    • Oracle RAC cannot be used with the CFS-ICI federator database
